Different tanker types have different capacities

Petroleum fuel tankers

Typical fuel tanker capacity ranges from 9,000 to 9,800 gallons, and the design is flexible and can be divided into four or five separate compartments to facilitate the loading of multiple fuel products in one vehicle. The capacity of each compartment varies depending on the configuration, ranging from 1,000 to 3,100 gallons. These vehicles are often equipped with at least one double-wall partition as a double protection to effectively isolate the compartments and prevent gasoline and diesel from interpenetrating in the event of a leak, ensuring safe transportation.

Bulk material tanker

Bulk material tankers, also known as pig trailers, have a capacity range of approximately 4,000 to 4,100 cubic feet and are equipped with four to five square support pads on each side to facilitate the installation of spiral legs. Depending on the configuration, their load capacity can reach 500,000 pounds, specifically four pairs of spiral legs (8 total) support 400,000 pounds, and five pairs (10 total) reach the industry standard upper limit of 500,000 pounds. These trailers are made of carbon steel and feature a round horizontal structure, commonly known as horizontal silos or guppies. They are effectively insulated from wind and rain, ensuring on-site storage of dry bulk cargoes such as cement, lime, and fly ash, reducing project delays.

Chemical Tankers

The capacity of chemical tankers depends on the density and weight of the materials being transported. Smaller models such as 3,800 to 5,000 gallons are suitable for high-density products, standard models are between 6,000 and 7,000 gallons, and models up to 8,000 gallons are designed for lightweight chemicals. Due to the potential risk of contamination between chemicals, these vehicles are usually not equipped with internal partitions.

Pneumatic Tankers

Pneumatic tankers have a capacity between 500 and 1,650 cubic feet and are equipped with advanced pneumatic systems for efficient loading and unloading of large quantities of materials. Their vacuum-sealed design protects frac sand, cement, etc. from external moisture and contamination. The trailer has various structures, equipped with 2 to 4 hoppers, and the materials include carbon steel, aluminum and stainless steel. It combines chassis, pipelines and multiple unloading devices to form an integrated operating system.

Sanitary and food-grade transport tankers

The 3A-class tank trailers designed for food and sanitation standards have a capacity of 6,000 to 7,000 gallons and are designed for the transportation of liquid products. This type of trailer is made of stainless steel, with a single cabin and no partition design. The welds are specially polished, that is, 3A-class surface treatment to ensure cleanliness without dead corners. The vehicle is often equipped with a cleaning in place system (CIP), which uses water spray ball technology to achieve efficient cleaning inside the tank and prepare for a new round of loading.
