When it comes to vehicle maintenance, the first thing everyone thinks of is changing engine oil, engine filter, replenishing butter, etc., but there is a "little thing" installed in an inconspicuous position on the body that is easily overlooked. It is the drying tank on the chassis. It is a very important component, and today we will analyze it carefully.

The specific function of the drying tank

The function of the drying tank is almost the same as that of the wood filter and the machine filter, except that the drying tank filters compressed air. Since there will be more or less water vapor in the air, especially after being compressed by the air compressor, the water vapor will corrode the air storage tank and various valve bodies in the form of liquid water, so the drying tank is a device connected between the air compressor and the air compressor. The filter device between the air storage tanks is used to absorb the moisture in the compressed air, so that the transmitted compressed air is in a dry state.

Different from oil filters and diesel filters, the inner cavity of the drying tank is filled with granular water-absorbing molecular sieves, not filter paper. When the compressed air passes through the inner cavity, the moisture is instantly absorbed by the molecular sieves, thereby drying the compressed air. However, since the moisture that can be absorbed by the tank is limited, the drying tank should be equipped with a back-blowing system to drain the water in the drying tank, otherwise the tank will lose its drying capacity due to the adsorption saturation of the tank.

It will corrode the air storage tank and various valve bodies in the form of liquid water, so the drying tank is a filter device connected between the air compressor and the air storage tank to absorb the moisture in the compressed air and make the transmitted compressed air dry state.

So when to replace the dry tank? What's the harm in not replacing it?

Since the service life of this part is closely related to the environment of the car, there is no clear replacement cycle. According to the manual, it is checked every two years, but I have a small trick to share with you. When the water is released, it proves that the drying tank is on the verge of failure, and it should be replaced in time.

If the dry tank is not replaced for a long time, it may cause major problems for the vehicle. Seriously, low-temperature freezing causes brake failure. When the drying tank fails, a large amount of water vapor will enter the brake cylinder. When driving in a low-temperature environment, it is very easy to cause failure due to water freezing in the brake cylinder.

Secondly, because there is a lot of water vapor in the gas circuit and valve body, the vehicle has "chronic diseases". In the short term, no major problems may be seen, but in the long run, the life of various parts related to the gas circuit will be reduced due to corrosion.

Inferior quality drying tank not only has limited drying capacity, but also has a very short lifespan. It will not only cause water accumulation in the brake air circuit, but also cause problems such as pipeline blockage, metal parts corrosion, and rubber parts cracking. Therefore, it is recommended to choose a reliable one. drying cans.
